Lilah Carrié
About

My name is Lilah Carrié, I was born in 2004 in Paris.
I completed a general baccalaureate with an arts specialization. Than did a foundation year in Art from 2022 to 2023.
I was received in Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg in 2023 to 2026, where i studied ceramic. I hold a French National Diploma in Art (DNA), specialising in Object Art and Ceramics.
Ever since I was a child, I have been angry. That anger has never really gone away. My body and mind have been reshaped, unsettled, and at times
damaged rom childhood through adolescence, and into that uncertain stage we call «young adulthood.»
My work emerges from this experience : it offers a reflection on those formative years spent growing up as a girl, with everything that entails: anger,
frustration, and the feeling of never quite measuring up to the ideal imposed upon us. By bringing together two worlds that shaped me : the world of social media and the internet, which defined my adolescence, and the softer world of childhood toys.
I explore the tensions between innocence and the expectations placed on women.
I am currently studying ceramics at HEAR, where clay has become my primary medium. Over the past three years, I have developed a strong technical foundation, particularly in ceramic image-transfer techniques.
I hand-build my sculptures through a simple, intuitive process. The forms I create emerge from whims and childish imaginings; they often look like toys, as though they belonged to an imaginary childhood.
My work also investigates the relics of our digital intimacy: TikToks, blogs, text messages, livestreams, and YouTube videos; those fragments of
contemporary life that surround us yet often go unnoticed.
I employ a soft, childlike, almost "cliché" aesthetic because it embodies exactly what is expected of girls: to be pretty, polished, and light-hearted.
Yet beneath this surface lies sexist violence, anger directed at men, and acts of rebellion. These themes are approached through humor rather than
bitterness; irony and second-degree humor are central to my practice.
